Batching: Keep Consistent and Stress Free
December 23, 2022

Updated: Mar 27, 2024

During a previous audit of our content, we found that we posted 62 blogs. 62 carefully planned and executed pieces on tools, tips, and observations around owning a small business and helping other business owners reach their full potential.

I don’t need to explain that having consistent posts on social media, an updated blog, and a dedicated email campaign keeps your subscribers happy because you already know the key to a successful business…is content! Video content is very important, necessary, and, let’s be honest, downright time consuming. Every other day, it seems like there’s a new TikTok trend or YouTube update that you must incorporate into your marketing work.

So, with that in mind, let’s talk about how to manage it all without overstuffing our calendars!

Time management is everything. Without a routine, schedule, and content calendar, you won’t be able to run your business smoothly. Although sometimes, even with all of that in place, you may still feel overwhelmed.

We stay up to date on our efforts through a simple process called batching. Batching is exactly what it sounds like. A time management technique that helps you organize similar tasks into a focused productivity block. While we’re talking about content batching here, feel free to batch your inventory/ordering system, your file cleanup, scheduling, planning, record keeping, or anything else you can think of!

Before you batch it, plan it. Follow these simple steps to make the most of your time.

  1. Define your goal (What’s motivating you to batch? Extra time? Better quality work? Deadlines? What are you hoping to gain from doing this?)
  2. Determine what weekly/monthly/quarterly tasks need to be done
  3. Categorize them by likeness (so you can determine which tasks can be in the same batch)
  4. Create a schedule that works for you.
  5. Execute your plan and improve where needed!

While you’re planning to batch these video updates and blogs, let’s talk about Evergreen content.

Evergreen content is a term used for recyclable content. Instead of making date-sensitive or trend-filled pieces (ex. “Happy Tuesday!” at the start of your video, “This Easter I’m excited for…” in a blog post), consider making content that can be repurposed. This can help keep you consistent when you’re low on content or short on time. Use the evergreen content that would be most helpful to your audience to fill in the gaps.

It also helps to ensure you’re posting at peak hours. Each social media platform has its peak times; Sprout Social has an easy-to-read guide on these platforms and their unique posting rules. However, in a very general sense, think of when people are most likely to be on their phones. After work, during lunch breaks, and first thing in the morning are your best options.

Now that you’ve batched your time, made evergreen content, and plotted when to post, your calendar should have some white space! What will you do in your newfound free time?

Don’t let planning overwhelm you! If you’re looking for more opportunities to create more white space, a VA can help!  Schedule a call with us and see how EVA can turn your business goals into realities.
