I am very excited to write this month’s Spotlight Series featuring Chris Schwab of Think Maids. Chris has been a loyal client of EVA since 2016 and is a great example of how effective delegating can truly grow your business. Chris uses 2 VA’s to run his cleaning company and they do tasks from marketing to bookings and even help coordinate the cleaning staff.
Think Maids has a unique concept when it comes to easy bookings and a reliable staff. We asked Chris some questions about his business and the success he’s found with his company.
What or who inspired you to start your business?
I was inspired to start my business because I saw how old fashioned existing cleaning companies were, and I knew I could provide a technologically up-to-date and reliable service. So I set out to fix what I saw as problems in the cleaning industry: consistency, transparency, and ease of booking.
What problem do you solve?
I solve consistency, transparency, and ease of booking. Consistency is a big one, as many maids are simply late or do not show up at all when they say they will, so I go through a rigorous interview process to ensure we get quality maids. Ease of booking is perhaps the most appreciated by our customers. They can book online, log into their account and change anything they need to right up until their booking day. We let them contact us by call, text, email and even live chat on our website to ensure they always have a form of communication open with us.
What do you attribute to the success of your business?
Early on building systems for a lot of the work we do. That way it is much easier to delegate work to others when there are already defined roles and duties. I also attribute a lot of success to exploring as many marketing channels, big and small as I can.
What’s your favorite aspect of your business?
The team you slowly build as a business owner. I am lucky to have a really great team and we all work well together, which makes running the business more fun than stress.
Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently? If so, why?
I would have spent more time putting myself out there to potential customers, as that is the only real way to grow (beyond referrals). It is a hard thing to do but I am always rewarded when I do it.
What’s your best piece of business advice?
Learn how to delegate to others efficiently and stay on top of your to do list! If you can do both of these things well you will get very far.
What is the main takeaway that you want people to know about you or your business from this interview?
We are only just starting the journey, but Think Maids has spent a lot of time building a solid foundation with which to grow on. I am confident that when we experience a growth spurt we will do it well.
